We went to Cape Tribulation, had a crocodile boat ride and passed through Port Douglas.
We drove north all day to get to Cape Tribulation which is where Cook first landed. Once you pass Daintree river on the ferry you’re driving through the rain forest which is right up to the road on both sides. The cape was beautiful but a little over cast and drizzly.
Before we crossed the river we took a crocodile viewing trip on the Daintree and saw a number of crocs up to 3.5 metres long amongst the mangroves.
Ps. On reading this to nelly he declared that I hadn’t written much about this day. Well what can you say when you spend all day sat in a car staring at trees? Bit sick of trees oh and sleeping policemen and cassowary 2km signs (but still not seen one) and the only time we were allowed to stop was when he wanted a fag. Eventually he took to smoking them out the window, bit like a Labrador with his little ears flapping in the breeze.
It appears that the Hyundai Getz is the most popular hire car in FNQ (far north Queensland, do keep up) and ours was automatic. Spent all day booting the accelerator to make it kick down but all that did was make the little tin box rattle louder with no appreciable gain in speed. And of course there’s no engine breaking on an auto, solved that one by turning the air con on on downhills and using the overdrive off button on uphills. In it’s favour tho was an aux input socket so we could listen to the iPod. Wonder if Shirley Bassey has ever appeared live in a rainforest?
Tea tonight was salami and sliced cheese sarnies, microwaved soup and a bottle of red wine. Oh the life.
