After six months on my first wordpress theme I’ve updated to a http://graphpaperpress.com one called F8-lite which is a lot simpler than my first one and therefore much quicker to load.
On the down side it is a bit basic, only a couple of widget areas that don’t display all that well, but it looks good and loads on smartphones.
